IREM is today a point of reference in the design and production of voltage stabilisers integrated into highly reliable uninterruptible power systems (UPS), specifically designed for the naval sector and, in particular, for the demanding field of deep-sea drilling. These stabilisers offer maximum power reliability thanks to redundant UPS with voltage stabiliser integrated into the by-pass line, making it possible to adapt the voltage of the on-board generators to the specific needs of the equipment.

Voltage stabiliser for critical applications in the naval sector

What are the technical specifications?

The stabiliser, designed to ensure stability and adaptability in extreme situations, has the following technical characteristics:

  • Input mains voltage: 460V ± 15%
  • Output voltage: three-phase at 220V ± 1%
  • Power: 450 kVA
  • Rated current: 1600A
  • Frequency: 60 Hz
  • Independent regulation of the three phases with compensation of voltage asymmetries
  • Components: nickel-plated copper windings and connections for long life
  • AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) maintenance by-pass in a separate casing, thus ensuring safety and ease of intervention
  • By-pass switching operable under voltage and current, achieved with switch-disconnectors equipped with an interlocked and coordinated I-0-II rotary operating system
  • Modular structure to optimize space and facilitate on-board integration
  • Handling from above to facilitate assembly inside the technical rooms via small-sized watertight hatches
  • Customized coloring according to the RAL scale, adaptable to specific customer requests.
Voltage stabiliser for the naval sector

What advantages does this solution offer?

This stabiliser allows you to adapt the voltage values of the on-board generators to the voltage values of the equipment to be powered. Furthermore, it keeps the voltage supplied to the loads stable even when the mains voltage is subject to significant variations. Finally, it is able to guarantee constancy in the output short circuit current values, even in the different operating modes of the UPS, such as double conversion (AC-DC/DC-AC) and automatic by-pass with static switch or maintenance by-pass.

Where can it be applied?

This configuration finds application in the automatic bypass lines of high-power industrial UPS, offering stabilization of the RMS voltage, reduction of amplitude variations and cancellation of voltage asymmetry deriving from the network or induced by single-phase loads on the transformers.

Why is IREM the ideal choice?

With over 50 years of experience in the sector, IREM stands out for its ability to develop tailor-made solutions, responding to the most complex needs of power conversion for static uninterruptible power supplies.

This expertise has led IREM to collaborate with one of the most important manufacturers of industrial UPS at a global level for a project intended for drilling vessels, used for the production of oil and natural gas from offshore fields. These vessels, equipped with IREM stabilisers, can reach a gross tonnage of 60,000 tons and operate at depths of 3,000 meters, ensuring maximum reliability and safety even in extreme conditions.

Being a partner of leading companies and passing rigorous validation criteria is not only a source of pride for IREM, but also an opportunity to grow and enrich its own skills, which is reflected in the quality of the solutions proposed for future projects.
