For over 70 years, IREM has continuously offered specific products and solutions for the professional lighting sectors that use Xenon lamps.
The short arc Xenon lamp is a specific type of gas discharge lamp capable of producing bright light with characteristics very similar to those of natural sunlight.

For this reason, Xenon lamps find application in highly specialized sectors that need to generate and use artificial light, with a continuous spectrum, as close as possible to daylight (color temperature of 6000 Kelvin).
The advantages deriving from the use of Xenon lamps are not dictated only by the intrinsic characteristics of the light source, but rather depend on the quality of the power supply supplied to the lamp itself.
In fact, two essential components are needed to supply power to the short arc Xenon lamp:

  • the Power Supply (also known as rectifier or ballast)
  • the Igniter

The quality of the technical characteristics of the power supply and the igniter are therefore essential both to power the Xenon lamp reliably and ensure a long life, and to increase the performance levels of the final applications.
Thanks to their technical characteristics of reliability and quality, IREM products represent the ideal solution for multiple applications and areas of use of short arc Xenon lamps such as:

APPLICATION AND SECTOR
  • Solar Simulation: industrial, aerospace, environmental, medical, scientific, material / component / product testing
  • Searchlights: naval, events, architectural
  • Projection: digital and traditional cinematography, events
  • Spotlights: stage, theatrical and architectural lighting

Strengths of IREM ballasts and igniters for xenon lamps

LOW RIPPLE

Low current ripple (up to 1%) to increase lamp performance, drastically reduce flickering and ensure long lamp life.

CONSTANT CURRENT

The IREM power supplies by supplying direct current (DC) guarantee high power stability, moreover, the electronic models, thanks to a feedback control in current, ensure a stabilized current regardless of the perturbations that may occur on the power supply network.

VERSATILITY

Each model of power supply and ignitor has been designed to allow the powering of different types of lamps in different power ranges.

COLD/ HOT RESTRIKE CAPABILITY

Igniters with ignition voltages suitable for immediate lighting of the lamp in all conditions (both “cold” and “hot”).

USER FRIENDLY

Thanks to the experience gained over the years by IREM in different fields of application, IREM Power Supplies and Igniters stand out for their ease of use and installation.

RELIABILITY

Product design aimed at specialized sectors that require continuity of service and low intervention costs.

POWER LIGHTING. The Ripple phenomenon

One of the main factors to consider when choosing the right power supply for Xenon lamps is residual ripple, a phenomenon known in electronics and electrical engineering as “Ripple”. A low percentage of Ripple is synonymous with high quality DC power supply.
