Saving and optimizing energy resources is today one of the topics of greatest interest globally, for this reason the Water Consortium of the province of Alicante, Spain, responsible for the water supply and sanitation of the area, relied on IREM for the supply of a Pelton hydroelectric turbine to be installed on its water network.

The project foresees the exploitation of the water deposits, before distribution and treatment, present in the consortium’s supply structure.
In the tanks, which characterize these types of installations, there are pressure reducers, which, in this case, have been replaced by a Pelton IREM turbine served by a by-pass which has been inserted on the current pipeline, before the pressure reducer. pressure.
In this way it is possible to exploit the pressure of the existing system to produce renewable energy and feed it into the electricity grid.

The project is characterized by a pressure of 9 Bar and a flow rate of 100 l / s.
The machine chosen is a Pelton IREM turbine model TPA with generated electrical power of 72 kW, equipped with fully automatic flow regulation through 6 on / off jets to adapt to variations in the system.

The energy produced by the hydroelectric plant will be fed low voltage into the national electricity grid, guaranteeing an interesting economic return to the Water Consortium.
