It was in 1965 that the artist Yoko Ono developed her concept of a LIGHT HOUSE and just two years later she was asked by John Lennon to build one for him in his garden; this was impossible though, as at the time the Light House was purely conceptual!
It would take little more than 40 years until Yoko Ono converted the once conceptual Light House into the very physical experience of the Imagine Peace Tower in memory of her beloved husband John. This year, on December 8th, we are commemorating the 40th anniversary of the premature departure of John Lennon.

It is with great pride that IREM wants to share this special moment.

The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is an outdoor art work in Iceland opened in 2007 to the public, that wants to send the message of love and peace to the world by means of light. The light beam of the peace tower is made by 15 searchlights, 6 smaller searchlights of 2kW and 9 bigger ones of 7kW.

While the 7kW searchlights are aiming vertically at the sky, the smaller ones are placed below the surface at the outer circle of the construction. Their beams aim towards the center of the artwork, onto a special rhodium 45°mirror. The mirror reflects the light beam vertically where it joins the large beams and together they form the peace tower.
All searchlights mount Xenon short arc lamps and these lamps are struck by means of IREM H.V Igniters AS-8030 and AS-16040.

Xenon Lamps: what are they and what are they used for?

Xenon lamps are special gas discharge lamps that operate on direct current (DC). Inside them, an electric arc passes through two electrodes inside a bulb filled with high-pressure Xenon gas. This process produces an intense and bright light, available immediately upon ignition, similar to natural sunlight.
