In the plastics production and processing industry, electrical energy represents one of the main energy carriers. For this reason, the adoption of systems dedicated to reducing consumption has become a strategic element for maintaining competitiveness and efficiency.
With this objective in mind, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of thermoplastic and rubber compounds has chosen to implement three
IREM Ecobuck energy savers, each integrated into a different production process.

What is the core message of this application?

The use of IREM energy savers makes it possible to counter rising energy costs by improving power quality and enabling more efficient management of electrical energy. The loads are supplied with optimal stabilized voltage, reducing active energy consumption. In addition, the compensation of reactive energy further contributes to lowering direct energy expenses.

What are the strengths of the adopted solution?

The technology stands out for its reliability and for the high efficiency of the equipment. The system operates with natural air cooling and ensures constant voltage stabilization together with compensation of the inductive component of the load.
Another significant advantage is eligibility for the fiscal benefits provided by the Industry 5.0 Transition Plan, in addition to the possibility of integration with energy-efficiency projects powered by renewable sources.
With long-standing experience in the field of energy saving, IREM offers a particularly wide range of equipment—from 25 kVA to 3150 kVA—designed to meet various application needs.

In which application areas is this solution used?

In the plastics manufacturing sector, the use of energy savers improves process efficiency by supplying loads with constant and stabilized voltage. The increase in power quality reduces energy waste and consequently COâ‚‚ emissions. Maintenance costs are also reduced thanks to the more balanced management of electrical loads.

What specific features characterize this application?

In the project described, an Ecobuck Y320AJB2500-S10R-MID energy saver was supplied, with a rated power of 2500 kVA. The system includes a 4000 A main input switch, a 4000 A maintenance by-pass, and connection via busbar trunking.
The VO optimization section enables independent phase regulation, while the automatic power factor correction section operates with THDi 100% and THDu 3%. Multifunction meters with graphic displays are installed at both the input and output, together with MID meters.
The system allows real-time visualization of electrical parameters and stores historical data on the IREMon platform, ensuring integration with production processes. The measured energy saving exceeds 6%, confirming the effectiveness of the technological choice.

What additional value does this solution offer?

The installed energy saver will operate in perfect synergy with the future 1.2 MVA photovoltaic plant. The high production of the PV installation will tend to increase voltage levels, especially during periods of low consumption. In such scenarios, the IREM system will ensure optimal supply conditions and even greater overall energy-efficiency performance.
