Acque SpA is a company managing the entire Integrated Water Service (aqueduct, sewerage and purification) in the territory of Basso Valdarno and Valdinievole, which includes 55 municipalities across the provinces of Florence, Lucca and Pisa.
Acque SpA has chosen IREM SpA as partner for its first hydroelectric turbine.
The objective is to exploit the hydraulic head of a water treatment plant to generate sustainable energy. With this aim, Acque has installed a hydroelectric turbine on an aqueduct at the Vico plant, in the municipality of Montecatini Terme, where the resource used for hydroelectric energy production is the same intended for drinking water use.
The installed Pelton turbine is designed to operate under different flow conditions, from 40 liters per second during winter periods to 8 liters per second during summer periods, with a net head of 90 m and a nominal power of 26 kW.
IREM hydroelectric turbines for aqueduct applications comply with the European Directive 98/83/EC “Quality of water intended for human consumption”, regulated in Italy by Ministerial Decree of April 6, 2004 no. 174 and in France by DGS/SDA7A no. 571 of November 25, 2002.
All machines manufactured by IREM are supplied with a Declaration of Conformity to these legal requirements.
To date, IREM can boast more than 170 installations of hydroelectric turbines on drinking water aqueducts worldwide.
IREM Generation Units have obtained certification according to CEI 0-21 for generation units composed of hydroelectric turbine + grid parallel panel, successfully passing all required tests carried out by an accredited laboratory.
IREM is now able to offer Generation Units compliant with CEI 0-21 2022-03, thus avoiding costly and complex commissioning tests for its customers.
