TPA Ecowatt micro hydroelectric power plant'TPA' asynchronous Pelton Turbines

Pelton asynchronous turbines for parallel operation

These are suitable for heads from 20 m to 350 m and effective flow rates ranging from 0.5 l/s to 100 l/s.The buckets are made of precision cast stainless steel. All Pelton turbines are fitted with six nozzles controlled by some special flow regulation valves which help the efficiency of the system. The wheel is directly splined to the generator shaft, in order to give an improved global output. All the main mechanical parts are in stainless steel. Accurate anti-corrosion processes are applied to all the surfaces.

Asynchronous plants are made up of a turbine-generator group on vertical axis. The wheel is directly splined to the generator shaft. The distributor is provided with 6 nozzles coveying the water to the wheel. These nozzles are provided with an electrically-operated, servocontrolled valve for closing/opening purposes.
The wheel blades and the disk are in stainless steel, AISI 316/l.
The turbine case is composed by a welded assembly in sheet steel.

The feeding group is composed by manual floodgate, manual bypass valve and relevant connections. The feeding group also includes the anchoring and the connection to the penstock through a DIN flange.
The electric actuators are useful to operate the valves by rotating them of 90° (ON/OFF position).
The asynchronous generator is fitted with a duly sized asynchronous motor. The generator is also fitted with a special shield avoiding any contact with water and with a speed sensing device. Bearings are largely sized and can easily withstand the axial load of the wheel.

The electric control board has been designed to control the low voltage parallel operation. The operation may be both manual and automatic.

The manual operation permits to perform connection and release from parallel (first check the presence of mains and other protective devices) and the opening/closing of nozzles and bypass valve through the electric actuators.
Under automatic operation the release is performed only after an overall check of the plant and in the absence of abnormal conditions. The adjustment of the generated power may be performed manually or in relation to other parameters like level of the bassins upstream or pressure inside the penstock.

The electric control board consists in a metallic cabinet subdivided in two sections containing the control devices. These control boards are manufactured and tested according to IEC Standards.
